Can someone name a good Herbal guide?

My main interest is in Ginkgo Biloba. I like it. Have used it from time to time. Know it works well. Wish I had something more like an instruction manual. I have been %26quot;winging it%26quot; till now. I read somewhere it works best at night while you sleep. I%26#039;ve never done THIS! NOW i know i definitely need to get the facts straight about: how much to take, when to take it, various grades, etc.

Thank you in advance : )

Can someone name a good Herbal guide?
one of the best herbal guides I know is the big book called %26quot;school of natural healing%26quot; by the famous %26quot;father of modern herbology%26quot; Dr. John R Christoper.

The best alternative health book I use is healthy healing my Linda Rector Page (also use prescription for nutritional healing by balche (sp?)

Best programs and herbs from Dr. richard Schulze herbdoc.com

He doesn%26#039;t sell ginkgo but does have a brain formula with gingo in it.

For an excellant brand, use herbpharm. Use a tincture rather than as capsule for best absorption. Make sure it is organic or wildcrafted (picked from the wilds) as these are 7-10 times higher in the pytochemicals that prevnt and cure diseases.

Doseage--directions for dose using 3 times for moderate problems and 5 times a day for more serious problems. Do it according to weight..it is based on weight of 150 [pounds. Put it over a fraction..If you weigh 300 pounds 300 divided by 150 (300/150)=2 so use twice as much as label says. If you weigh 100 pounds use 100/150-2/3 so two thirds the dose if the dose is 60 drops use 2/3rds of that so 40 drops. If giving it to a 50 lbs child 50/150= 1/3rd..a pet 25/150 = 1/6th dose etc.

Using a tincture put the drops in about a spoon of water or juice. I just take straight..some herbs are taken with food and some not..

You do not need to count drops..squeeze the eyedropper top on the tincture bottle, put in bottle of liquidherbal tincture and release. Whatever remains in the dropper is considered one dropperful (it will usually look about one half full..one dropperful is about 30 drops so if the dose is 60 drops take one dropperful..if it is 60 take two dropprfuls. Capsules are the worse way to take herbs.

I have made my own..anything thing you make will generally be much better than what you buy and it costs about 1/10th the cost. You can use bulk herbs (an ounce of ginkgo would be about a dollar and you%26#039;d get quite a bit of tincure. Look online for how to make a tincture. It%26#039;s easy..make sure the jar you store it in is dark or paint it or keep it in a bag in a dark place as light hurts it. Always mark and label it..and put a date of 5 years from the day it is sweeezed on the label as the expiration but tinctures 75 years old have been fine and I go past the date with mine. I used ginkgo leaves from a tree AI found at a union cemeatary..there are several going outside the fence with threir branches. They need to be picked in the fall. I dried them but frezsh would be fine..in fact, probably would have been better.

I personally need it, but I keep forgetting to take it..
Reply:thank you so much..I made an error in the best answer. On the 8th paragraph that begins with the words %26quot;you do not need to count drops%26quot; that reads %26quot;.one dropperful is about 30 drops so if the dose is 60 drops take one dropperful..if it is 60 take two dropprfuls%26quot; Report It

Reply:should read 30 instead of 60 so it should be .%26quot;one dropperful is about 30 drops so if the dose is 30 drops take one dropperful..if it is 60 take two dropperfuls%26quot;. Sorry for the error. Report It

Reply:I have a book called Top 100 Herbal remedies by Anne Mcintyre which I find really usefull
Reply:I do not have references to the type of brand you should take; however, the usual dosage is anywhere from 40 to 80 mg three times daily- breakfast, lunch, and dinner- women should not use it when pregnant. I have two nice references for you:
