From the following list, please pick your THREE favorite trees. (Well, unless you only have one or two faves). Is vitamin water good for you or not? becuase I drink it all the time. especially the Focus or kiwi-strawberry kind. It says that it has vitamin A and ginkgo biloba in it (whatever that is) Does anyone know if thats good or bad?

Is vitamin water good for you or not? because I am ADDICTED - especially to the Focus kiwi-strawberry?
It%26#039;s OK for you. But, not especially OK for your wallet. Vitamin water, along with most bottled waters, are a total ripoff.

I think vitamin water is one of those things that isnt good or bad for you. Its just somewhere in the middle.
Reply:Not good for you....has high levels of glucose and sodium
Reply:Too much vitamin A can be bad for you.

What's the best non-prescription supplement to improve memory and focus?

It%26#039;s getting close to my next round of exams again and I need a boost. I don%26#039;t want to get involved in prescription amphetamines, and energy drinks tend to just give me excess energy and a counterproductive inability to focus. I%26#039;ve heard good things of ginkgo biloba extracts. I%26#039;ve heard %26#039;ginkgold%26#039; is quite good. Any input is appreciated. My spending limit is about $50 and I%26#039;d prefer purchasing it online.

What%26#039;s the best non-prescription supplement to improve memory and focus?
i use siberian ginseng and ginko biloba. both are available at your local grocery store and about 10 bucks a bottle. my cousins%26#039; wife has been studying alternative medicine for about 4 years now so i called and she recommended those two.

ginseng has a calming effect for me and that is very important when going into an exam. if you%26#039;re looking for a natural energy boost try bee pollen. it%26#039;s inexpensive as well.

i went back to school at 35 and the anxiety of learning to learn again was almost overwhelming and those basic supplements really made a noticeable difference. i%26#039;m not sure how much was just in my mind but whatever works works.

a 2 month supply will come in far under your budget.

good luck with your exams!
Reply:I wouldn%26#039;t rely on supplements only. There are several other things you can do to improve your memory.

If you want to improve your ability to memorize, then learn the memory systems. These include the peg, link, loci, and other methods, and they are not hard to learn. Just the other day, I taught my first-grader how to memorize a page of Spanish vocabulary using the %26quot;keyword%26quot; visualization method.

A easy-to-read book that explains the memory systems and gives lots of examples is %26quot;The Memory Book%26quot; by Harry Lorayne. For students like you, his other book, %26quot;Super Memory, Super Student%26quot; may even be better, since it explains how the memory systems can be used to memorize course work like chemistry, math, and so on.

To improve your memory generally, you will probably need to make some lifestyle changes. There has been a lot of research lately about memory. This research shows that exercising daily, improving your sleep, eating brain foods and taking brain vitamins, and meditating can all improve memory. You can also play brain games like sudoku, crossword puzzles, and chess to help keep your mind sharp.

If you have trouble concentrating, start taking fish oil vitamins. A lot of people are deficient in the Omega-3 nutrients found in fish oil. These nutrients are required for brain health but are often missing from today%26#039;s diets. I take 1 to 2 teaspoons a day of the liquid fish oil (Carlson%26#039;s brand).

You can do all this for almost no money. The two books I mentioned are only about $10 each. Vitamins and brain foods are fairly cheap, and the other lifestyle changes are free. And you can easily find free brain games on the Internet.

Reply:First, to improve memory, the important factor is blood circulation of the brain with sufficient oxygen supply and other essential nutrients.

Several memory enhancing herbs are available in the market. But, the only herb that inhales oxygen while growing are the Red Mushrooms (also known as Ganoderma, Lingzhi or Reishi). So when taken regularly, the blood oxygen absorbed increases by 1.5 times. Also, more than 200 active elements are developed in Red Mushrooms. Very importantly containing an element called Polysaccharides (known as %26quot;master molecules%26quot; that correct body imbalances and a body cleanser).

What is the best health product (supplements) for overall health, why?

Health products like multivitamin, omega, ginkgo etc.

What is the best health product (supplements) for overall health, why?
That%26#039;s actually a really broad question. Most supplements help for one particular area of the body, and there are only a few that are actually good for %26quot;overall health%26quot;.

Of course, a good multi is a good idea to cover the basics, but there are quite a few others, too....

Most antioxidants cover things over the whole body, and that covers the Vitamin C products, Noni, Goji, Blueberry, and dozens of other fruits. Chlorella and Spirulina cover several bases because of the naturally occurring vitamins, minerals, protein, amino acids, and chlorophyll.

To cover the other ones you mentioned, Omega is a general category of nutrients (like %26quot;vitamin%26quot; is a general category). Most Omega-3 fatty acids help with cardiovascular health, skin health, and brain health (although brain health is mostly fish oil). Most Omega-6 fatty acids are good for skin health and women%26#039;s %26quot;monthly issues%26quot;. Ginkgo is good for brain health and memory support. Most of those individual and popular ones are typically just for single purposes, really.

......Any others you have questions about? Let me know.
Reply:forget the supplements, go with veggies, fruits and grains. If I was stuck with just one,, go with fish oil
Reply:antioxidents are good(because they support your immune system). also, so is fish oil(it does many things, such as give joints extra cushioning, help prevent a heart disease, does something with your eyes)

Has anyone taken this antidepressant?

I have depression and social anxiety and the psychiatrist prescribed me Fevarin,which as far as I know from the Internet,is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor and Flavotan,another medicine with ginkgo biloba extracts.Does Fevarin have severe side effects and which? I ended up accpeting the idea that I need to take antidepressants disregarding the fact that they could have severe side effects because I feel there%26#039;s no other way I could heal,it%26#039;s too much pain and I can%26#039;t handle it alt all.Nothing worked and I%26#039;m afraid this won%26#039;t wotk either,but I need to know what are the risks of taking these pills.Thank you.

Has anyone taken this antidepressant?
Call your pharmacist where you got the prescription filled and he can give you the printout of the possible side effects. You have to give it about 2 months to work, unless you have bad side effects - then you should quit right away. I take Zoloft and Wellbutrin and have no side effects. That%26#039;s the way it should be. Good Luck!
Reply:It sounds as if you looked on the internet for some information about your meds, the same site that you found that information on should have told you about side effects and whatever else you want to know.....if your site didn%26#039;t go to webmd and do a drug search. I know you can find what you need on their site.
Reply:I have never heard of the antidepressant you are taking but I used to take lexapro and then changed to zoloft. When I started taking them I felt a really big difference. I feel like getting on antidepressants saved my life because I was to the point where I felt suicidal. Like all medicines they have side effects but they are not as bad as being depressed and anxious. Good luck.

What's the best concentration aid for studying?

Caffeine?

Nicotine?

Nootropics?

Ginkgo Biloba?

I%26#039;m struggling in college and I need to bring my GPA up to 3.6 (minimum.) Help!

What%26#039;s the best concentration aid for studying?
Here%26#039;s my tips to how to study well:

First, get yourself a good breakfast in the morning. I don%26#039;t particularly mean a breakfast sandwich and a deep fried hash brown at your favorite fast food joint, I really mean a plate of the classic bacon or sausage with eggs, hash browns, and some toast.

Second, for the cheap fix, get yourself some coffee. Typically, colleges/universities offer some really cheap prices for coffee, especially how much students and faculty drink on a daily basis.

Third, don%26#039;t study at home. Odds are that you will be distracted by turning on the TV or laying in bed with your literature material. A good and quiet place to study and work would typically be the campus library or a study room/lounge in nearly any college building. Computer labs are a good idea too, but steer away from the main labs and use the smaller labs.
Reply:Caffeine!!!
Reply:Chewing sunflower seeds helps a lot because you are constantly chewing. Listening to Mozart has been proved to help stimulate your brain also.
Reply:First, get a full eight hours a sleep each night --- this is number one. And drink a lot of water all day long.

Second, make your at-home study time to be five hours or more for studying each and every day.

Third, exercise aerobically as much as you possibly can.

Fourth, eat a lot of vegetarian meals, even if you%26#039;re not a vegan and take a multivitamin

Fifth, take DMAE - it%26#039;s a vitamin that is good for memory

and alpha lipoic acid and take a lot of Calcium/Magnesium/zinc vitamin.

Sixth, while studying, take a lot of short mental breaks such as warm showers, quick healthy snacks, push ups, etc.

and last be sure to have some recreational time, but don%26#039;t let recreational time cut into your study time too much.

I also find that study groups and genuine study partners help greatly.

Good Luck

(I graduated with my Bachelor%26#039;s as Magna C u m Laude )
Reply:Caffeine actually makes me tired but I%26#039;m weird ... Don%26#039;t do anything drastic or that will harm your body! I like to listen to music when I study, you can give that a try ... I also am a huge procrastinator and the best way to make time to study is to FORCE yourself to go the the library or your student lounge, not your room or home lol ... You+lots of coffee+library/quiet place with no distractions = Good study time :)

P.s. - Find out whether your a visual (learn best reading material), oral (learn best listening), or writing (learn best writing things down over and over)kind of learner. I am the last kind and for major tests or ones with a lot of vocab I like to write questions on flash cards and answers on the back and then quiz myself with them ... Or just taking notes helps me most of the time and then reviewing them or studying with a partner.

Is it safe to mix the following medications and supplements?:?

I%26#039;m currently taking:

Benicar

Metoprolol

multi-vitamin

fish oil-supplements

I%26#039;d like to add the following herbs and enzyme:

Ginseng

Ginkgo Biloba

St. John%26#039;s Wort

Co Q-10

Is it safe to take all of these medications and supplements together?

Is it safe to mix the following medications and supplements?:?
First, in response to Dr. J - Co Q-10 is Co-ENZYME Q-10...lets just hope that guy%26#039;s not really a doctor ;)

The thing to remember about herbal and natural products is that they are not regulated as drugs by the FDA and therefore do not have to be tested for efficacy and many times do not contain what they claim to or contain a minute amount of what is claimed. All natural products should be used with caution and you should contact your doctor or pharmacist about these.

While there are proven effects shown with St. John%26#039;s Wort, it is highly reactive with other medications and in and of itself produces very bad side effects in the majority of the population. Ginseng is also known for its bad effects and there is little creditable scientific proof that it actually works. Ginkgo Biloba is less likely to interact with your other medications, but can cause gastrointestinal problems. Co Q-10 isn%26#039;t very well studied, but should not cause problems with your other medications.
Reply:There are NO enzymes in your list.
Reply:Best thing to do with no medicine at all but use natural foods as your medicine unless you%26#039;re realy ill from some sort of genetic disorder. Organic foods and vegetbale works very well to keep the body in good health.
Reply:We%26#039;re not phjarmacists. Ask one.
Reply:Check with your pharmacist.
Reply:Benicar trigar side effect in the lung and intestinol area

And the Metoprolol affect the kidney

And if you mix the following medicines together?

They are going to have severe chemical reactions and will give you an ulcer in the stomach

or upset stomache
Reply:Jenn is absolutely correct. St. John%26#039;s Wort should not be touched, especially when taking other medications.

Personally, I wouldn%26#039;t add any of those, but if you insist on doing so check with a pharmacist first.

Is it safe to take a bunch of herbal supplements? More info...?

I take CoQ10, Fish Oil, Ginkgo Biloba, Garlic, and Blue Green Algae. Let me know if this is okay, or what I should be doing instead to get good minerals and supplements.

Is it safe to take a bunch of herbal supplements? More info...?
Yeah, its safe. all herbs are good for you, but wait..... you already know that.
Reply:This sounds fine but be sure your doctor knows that you take all of these so it is noted on your medical chart so he can watch what meds he prescribes so they don%26#039;t interact with your supplements.
Reply:eat a well balanced diet
Reply:It all sounds fairly safe. I take a lot of the natural products from Forever Living Products every day. I also drink the aloe gel. This is a very good Aloe Vera drink which builds and helps the immune system big-time.

One product you mentioned is Ginkgo. Forever Living make this too, along with most of the other products you mentioned, but for some reason, the Ginkgo is not allowed into the Republic of Ireland. I do not know or understand why. I do know someone, one of my own dowlnine in fact, who wants to take it. I don%26#039;t want to get him any other brand as I honestly feel Forever Living Products are the best of their kind in the world. That is how they can offer a sixty day money back guarantee on all their products.

If you do check up that web site and feel you would like to try their products, DONT! Don%26#039;t do it straight away, because I can save you 30% off the retail price. All you have to do is join as a distributor, and no, this does not mean you have to sell anything,it just allows you to buy at wholesale price. To join just quote my details: Frank Woods from Dublin, Ireland my distributor no is 353-000-019-886 and tell them I said you could join under me. You can also have a look at www.flpvideos.com for more information The original web site is www.foreverliving.com

Best of luck. If I can help you further I would be delighted. Just e-mail me at frankwoodsflp@eircom.net
Reply:I would say yes and no, you have to remember that each one of us is very different from the other,and it also depends on the amount or RDI for your age group and your activity level or lack of it.

I would very much like to get you some info about a Personalized Health program that will answer your questions better. So if you send me an e-mail I would be very glad to help you further. Send e-mail to herb_ent@yahoo.ca
Reply:safe? in general, yes. none appear to be harmful to anyone without a medical condition.

however, if you don%26#039;t use high quality products you%26#039;d be wasting money. my advice would be to eat better, first. never eat processed food (anything coming in a box, can, frozen, plastic, fast food, etc ), eat organic as much as possible.

i%26#039;ve found dr. mercola to be a good source for health 411
Reply:Sounds good, however how old are you and do you have health issues? You could get in touch with an Herbalist to see what they advise. Because if there is certain issues then they can tell you to omit one and use another, whatever the case may be. If you are hesitant about seeing one I know of one with a Phd. who does not charge for consultation and it is a free phone call to speak to him personally. Feel free to contact me, at newbegin@shaw.ca
Reply:It depends on what you want to achieve, the mix you have there is a strange one. maybe you try getting some free advice from a nutritonal expert, try www.myhealthabc.net, there is an email link to ask questions for free and then you can get help with what you want.
Reply:They are safe provided they are taken in dose it has been advised. But alternative medicine with chemical compounds are not safe.

Effexor and natural herbs?

Is there any danger on mixing effexor and natural suplements like ginkgo biloba? Is there any website where I can go to rad about it?

Effexor and natural herbs?
Ginko increases the blood flow to the brain. Caution should be used when ever considering using natural supplements while on prescribed medications. St. John%26#039;s wort is definitely not recommended with effexor but ginko should be used with extreme caution because it can potentiate bleeding with certain medications and can interact with certain antidepressants such as MAOIs, phenobarbital, TCAs, carbamazepine, and phenytoins. I would consult your physician whenever considering any type of alternative medicines.
Reply:I am allergic to Effexor XR and it was too bad since it was seeming to work fine until it made me very sick. It is always wise to let your doctor know about any herbs that you are taking. I wasn%26#039;t taking any at the time and once i stopped the medicine and went on something else i was fine. It is smart to be careful with your medicine and herbs. I am taking some herbs for diabetic problems and they seem to help even though i just started and i am giving myself some therapy on my feet. Foot massager and rubbing in a massage oil. It is good to go slow with something new and see how it works for you. I will try to do what works for me. Good Luck and take the time to read up on herbs and other natural ways to help yourself-even certain foods help. You can find books on herbs and also on medications. Type in the words you need information on and you can find many things on the Internet. I hope that one day doctors will learn a way to know more about herbs and be allowed to help their patients using herbs Years ago they did. Not everything was a chemical. Some people body respond better to one thing and another responds better to something else.
Reply:I%26#039;m pretty sure they wouldnt interfere with each other. I was on Effexor 300mg, and took herbal sleeping tablets and anti-biotics all at the same time and I am fine :) you could try calling your pharmacy they are paid to know these things!

I highly recommend %26#039;Spirilina%26#039;. It is a natural combined vitamin %26amp; mineral. A few years ago I went to a natraupath because I wanted to increase my energy levels both physically and mentally bc live a pretty busy lifestyle -full time work, study and regular exercise - he advised spirilina capsules(you can get liquid form also)

Its amazing for energy, mental alterness and capacity. Most important its natural and also provides a good does of essential vitamins and minerals promised in commercial muti-vitamins.

Reply:I personally don%26#039;t think it is worth it, although I could be wrong. Basically they are pumping out a lot of dollars on advertising in order to generate even more income from all the inadiquate feeling men out there. Just like small **** for a woman, men are hung up on the size of their peckers. I to was once in the same boat. Did I measure up? Then as I grew up I realized that what I have is what it is and I%26#039;ve never had any complaints. Granted if I could be 9%26quot; I wouldn%26#039;t turn it down but 4.5%26quot; is the average length of a penis so I am above average.

Yohimbe, Ginseng, and I believe palmetto are some of the supposed exciters. Ginko biloba will help your memory

Plus, you would have to take this everyday, is this something you can afford?
Reply:The others are right.

However, the herbs you mention can all be taken internally, and provide one heyull of a *****!

Look for sexual enhancement pills in your local adult store - many come in trial sizes.

Why are you wanting to grow it anyway? Just learn to use it - and your hands and mouth better...

Reply:Enzite is garbage, as are all the other natural herbal supplements. PLUS, the makers of Enzite are now being sued for fraud!

The only real, effective erection drugs are Viagra, Levitra and Cialis.

There is no drug that will increase the length of your penis.
Reply:The stuff might get you up, and maybe help you keep it up. But to change the size of it? -Not without surgery, pal. Even the pumps will only do what should come naturally. Plus, too much vacuum on one of those pumps could rupture a delicate blood vessel, and then you%26#039;ll really be in trouble. Do you really want to rub something with cayenne pepper on your vitals? Most of that stuff can be taken internally, and probably won%26#039;t kill you. But all those balms and gimmicks are just money-makers to prey on your insecurities. Unless you have an erectile dysfunction, it%26#039;s a waste of money.

Losing Weight?

I%26#039;m about 5 9-5 10 at about 172 pounds. I started taking care of my body now and I was just wondering if what I was doing was right. I started doing cardio, I run on my treadmill/outside if it%26#039;s nice. I%26#039;ve lost about 10 pounds with just changing some eating habits, getting more exercise.

I want better results so I just baught these protein shakes cause I%26#039;ve noticed I dont seem to getting a good amount of protein in my diet, I started taking wheys protein shake. My friend suggested them, so I started taking two glasses of skim milk a day with a 1/3 of a cup of wheys. Also, I started taking these multi vitamin and mineral supplement pills with ginkgo and ginseng. I started taking them everyday. I began taking Arginine right before some of my harder work outs- and I get a good feeling from it.

I was just wondering if I should watch out for any side effects, I did some research and it looks clean for the most part. I started taking the pills and powders just about a couiple days ago.

Losing Weight?
People pay WAY too much attention to weight.

As another answer points out, muscle weighs more than fat, so you can gain weight, while losing fat.

Don%26#039;t just go by weight, and don%26#039;t set some sort of artificial number for what you want to weigh. Your weight depends on a lot of things such as your build and how much muscle you have -- it doesn%26#039;t necessarily mean you%26#039;re fat.
Reply:All these people are giving you the wrong advise! 162 pounds is an ideal weight for 5%26#039;10%26quot;. Stop buying into unrealistic stereo-types. Just continue to work-out and eat healthy and you will be fine. Remember mussle weighs more than fat so even if the weight doesn%26#039;t change you body still is...
Reply:I applaud you for your efforts to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It looks like you are on the right track. I implore you to drink plenty of water. This will aid in protein synthesis and feed your muscles. Never mind the fact that plenty of water will keep you properly hydrated! For the protein shakes to do the most good for you, you should add weight training to your routine. Adding lean body mass (muscle) will increase your resting metabolic rate (burn calories even when you sleep!) and make you stronger. Good luck!
Reply:You seem to have it together. Everything looks good, except the herbs. I wouldn%26#039;t recommend taking any kind of herbs.

Reply:Nope, I think you can do it. With the right dieting a exercising, the goal isnt too hard. And its actaully safe.... losing 10 pounds in 1 week is another story... ^_^ll
Reply:I lost 105 pounds in 6 months. Here is how I did it.

1. Every morning get up and walk for 45 minutes. You can start with less time, but you want to get up to 45 minutes, and it must be fast walk. You want your heart rate to go up. It must be in the morning, it kick starts your metabolism.

2. I cut out Red Meat, and fatty foods. Boneless skinnless chicken breast, baked, or grilled, rice and vegetables (steamed).

3. Eat half. Just eat half of what you normally eat. Put 1/2 on your plate, and put the rest away. Cook less. When you go to fast food, get salads only. Or grilled chicken. No fries, only diet soda. Or water.

It will work, once you get into a routine, you will get hooked on the results, and you will keep the routine. It has been over a year for me.

A sight with some really cool diet calculators and interesting calorie counting calculators is here. Check it out.

Need some help on focusing?

I would like some advise, here recently I have started to have trouble focusing. (my mind). I start daydreaming and loose focus on the task at hand. It is not so much at work that bothers me but it does bother me in class. I am currently a junior at Stephen F. Austin State University, I have worked very hard to get where I am at and I refuse to give up. I currently take St John%26#039;s wort and ginkgo biloba. I do not take drugs such as ridilen or adderal because they make me space out and I have no clue what is going on. I would like to thank you for your advise It will be taken seriously (if it is a serious answer)

Need some help on focusing?
You do not have ADD. I too had this problem my last year of graduate school. I had so much going on in my life at that time, it was difficult to focus on my studies. I first examined my diet, which was quite poor (due to long hours at internship, part time job, being a wife, caring for my home, etc...) So, I went to GNC, and purchased a detox kit, and performed a detox flush on myself. I instantly felt better, slept better at night, and felt lighter on my feet. I think I detoxed for about 3 days and then gradually resumed a normal, but clean diet. Next, I examined my sleeping habits, which were erratic. I would stay up late, burning the midnight oil, and wake up early to start all over again. I was just plain worn out. Also, I was skipping workouts at the gym, which I normally would do during the early morning. Well, I was now cramming in a workout at night, which was also not good for my sleep. So, I made a concerted effort to go to sleep earlier, develop a consistent sleep schedule, to include the weekends when I would typically stay up late and sleep in. Also, I don%26#039;t know why this works, but put a little peppermint oil under your nose when you study and it gives you an instant lift. You two can purchase this at GNC or any kind of health food store. I had this gorgeous %26quot;tree hugger%26quot; friend in grad school named Lisa. She was a total health freak, fit body, taugt yoga. Well, she taught me that little trick, and she was a straight a student. I did find that it kept me focused, especially as I bullshitted my way through essays (LOLOLL!). Well, I would actually lay off St. John%26#039;s Wort for a while, and take a multi-vitamin like GNC%26#039;s Mega Men%26#039;s. It%26#039;s great. My hubby takes it, and it gives him energy. Okay, hope this helped.
Reply:you need something stronger for focusing it sounds like your mind is racing with thoughts and you cant focus on just one thing, any anti-depressant will work go see the dr and ask him what he thinks is best for you and stop the st, john;s and the ginkgo it can be toxic taking them with an anti-depresssant
Reply:Try masturbating... It%26#039;s the answer to everything.
Reply:i do the same thing, I%26#039;m not going back to school until i can find a cure, I%26#039;m just not meant to sit in a class room
Reply:How about Stratera? Sounds like a form of adult ADD or something. My son has ADD/OCD with tourettes and he can%26#039;t take Ridilen and such because it will make his tics worse. So they put him on Stratera because it%26#039;s a non-stimulant. The only side effect he had was a sore stomach now and then. It stopped though after a while. He%26#039;s not lethargic at all.
Reply:i think you have a.d.d i have it you should go get check for it its to wear you cant focus on anything for long periods of time
Reply:it sounds like the class or classes you are taking are either beneath your intelligence or just boring, if you have an opportunity, take a course in something fun. it will relieve the stress and help you focus on your other classes

We can learn from a drug and not need to take it all the time. I have no experience with the St. John%26#039;s but it could be a similar thing with the way it affects your mood. That%26#039;s just speculation though.

Redbull causes death and disorders?

I received an e-mail from a friend saying that Red Bull has been banned in certain European countries like France and Denmark because of it%26#039;s dangerous ingredients that supposedly can cause death or certain disorders.

Is this true?

Oh well.......I guess I am gonna stay with my Ginkgo Biloba pills that are natural...................

Redbull causes death and disorders?
This is the info I found on it, but it sounds like it%26#039;s just been overexaggerated and hyped-up to me, they certainly have NOT recalled it. Here%26#039;s the info from the BBC News... notice the inconsistencies in the story...you can decide what you think...

Red Bull in suspected link to deaths

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Swedish National Food Administration has issued a public statement after reports at least three people died after drinking it.
The Swedish National Food Administration (NFA) is heading the investigation, and has issued a public warning, telling people not to take Red Bull mixed with alcohol, or after heavy exercise.
The three healthy young people who died are all thought to have drunk Red Bull shortly before their deaths.
But the energy drink%26#039;s manufacturers said there was no proof the deaths were linked to Red Bull.
This is one story that%26#039;s been not based on facts, and has been fuelled by speculation
A spokesperson for Red Bull manufacturers denies reports.
Two of the victims died after mixing the drink with vodka.
One woman, named only as Therese, 31, collapsed on the floor of a nightclub in March this year.
Her boyfriend John Andersson told a national newspaper: %26quot;Suddenly she just fell down beside me. Her heart had stopped and she was completely lifeless.
A third person died after drinking several cans of the energy drink following a heavy workout at the gym.
Precaution
_________
Doctors at Stockholm%26#039;s South Hospital will lead the investigation.
Anders Glynn, of the NFA%26#039;s toxicology department told BBC News Online: %26quot;The public warning is a precaution.At this point, its just a suspicion and we really don%26#039;t know why , as it is a suspicion the physicians have reported to the press.%26quot;
A spokeswoman for the manufacturers of Red Bull told BBC News Online: %26quot;This is one story that%26#039;s been not based on facts, and has been fuelled by speculation.%26quot;
Catherine Collins, of the British Dietetic Association says energy drinks could lower blood pressure
She added the Swedish NFA had issued the public warning %26quot;without having the full information%26quot;.
%26quot;They need to be seen to be precautionary, but there%26#039;s no proof that Red Bull is harmful when mixed.%26quot;
She said the company would be working with the NFA to prove the drink was safe.%26quot;There%26#039;s been quite a lot of research looking at are the effects of Red Bull on the heart and circulation, and they have shown that if you take sufficient Red Bull, and other drinks that are performance enhancing, you can lower blood pressure and that may be the cause of the problem.%26quot;
Concerns
________
Last year, the coroner at the inquest into the death of 18-year-old Ross Cooney from Limerick, called for more research into the effect of energy drinks.Ross died of sudden adult death syndrome after a basketball match. Hours earlier he had drunk three cans of Red Bull.
The Times newspaper reports Norway, Denmark and France have classed the drink as medicinal because of its high caffeine content.Red Bull also contains taurine, a building block for protein and helps digest food. A small amount is thought to be beneficial, but some studies have suggested a small risk to health.
Last year, one billion cans of Red Bull were bought worldwide.
The UK%26#039;s Food Standards Agency said it was not planning an investigation.
Reply:I haven%26#039;t heard that, but I certainly wouldn%26#039;t be too surprised
Reply:it%26#039;s because people are doing stupid things with it like mixing it with alcohol.. i mean come on people if you mix certain herbal%26#039;s with grapefruit you%26#039;ll get a reaction right.. there is medical ingredients in that stuff and that%26#039;s why i don%26#039;t touch it. hey they say it gives you wings, but they didn%26#039;t say what kind..
Reply:HI!
It is true...But Ginko Baloba is something you need to watch too. Makes the blood thin!!!!!!
Reply:False
Reply:are you sure
Reply:Don%26#039;t think so...
Reply:In 2001, the drink was investigated by the Swedish National Food Administration after being linked to the deaths of three consumers. It has been subject to a number of other health concerns regarding glucuronolactone, a precursor of taurine. Sale of Red Bull as a normal soft drink is prohibited in Denmark, Norway, France and Uruguay.
Due to the link with taurine, local authorities categorized Red Bull as a medicine and suggest customers ask for medical advice before drinking. Because of this, only energy drinks without taurine are sold in France.
The official imported Canadian Red Bull is a caffeinated version of Thai Krating Daeng. Until late 2004, its sale was prohibited in Canada. Now a can must carry a warning label that says:
Cautions: Contains caffeine. Not recommended for children, pregnant or breast-feeding women, caffeine sensitive persons or to be mixed with alcohol. Do not consume more than 500 mL per day.
Reply:I am afraid it may be true , I remember when it first came out, I worked with this Hippie dude and he swore that his doctor friend said it was bad for you and could possibilly make you go blind .......this was a long time ago so its not a shock to hear it now ......... I believ it is only one or two of the ingrediients that are in question , there is a couple other of those type out now that can supposedly make you blind , according to this hippie doctor dude , and he is right on the money 99 percent of the time ......
Reply:I feel all energy drinks are not healthy and are bad for the body
Reply:Don%26#039;t believe every rumor you hear, usually the gossipers are either ignorant or have ulterior motives.
Reply:The problems actually DO happen, but are caused by extreme overdose. I have not heard that they were banned, but the selling of energy drinks has been restricted in several countries. In the US, there are many places where energy drinks cannot be purchased by anyone under seventeen.
Like any drug, the abuse of the chemicals in Red Bull can be fatal to those sensitive to their effects. Taurine is the drug in it, and a lot of other energy drinks, that causes the problem. But you have to consume a LOT of them to have a problem.
It%26#039;s kinda like alcohol poisoning. If you have any common sense and look at the labels once in a while, it won%26#039;t happen. Drinking one or two Red Bulls for energy is fine.
Can someone name a good Herbal guide?
My main interest is in Ginkgo Biloba. I like it. Have used it from time to time. Know it works well. Wish I had something more like an instruction manual. I have been %26quot;winging it%26quot; till now. I read somewhere it works best at night while you sleep. I%26#039;ve never done THIS! NOW i know i definitely need to get the facts straight about: how much to take, when to take it, various grades, etc.
Thank you in advance : )
He doesn%26#039;t sell ginkgo but does have a brain formula with gingo in it.
For an excellant brand, use herbpharm. Use a tincture rather than as capsule for best absorption. Make sure it is organic or wildcrafted (picked from the wilds) as these are 7-10 times higher in the pytochemicals that prevnt and cure diseases.
Doseage--directions for dose using 3 times for moderate problems and 5 times a day for more serious problems. Do it according to weight..it is based on weight of 150 [pounds. Put it over a fraction..If you weigh 300 pounds 300 divided by 150 (300/150)=2 so use twice as much as label says. If you weigh 100 pounds use 100/150-2/3 so two thirds the dose if the dose is 60 drops use 2/3rds of that so 40 drops. If giving it to a 50 lbs child 50/150= 1/3rd..a pet 25/150 = 1/6th dose etc.
Using a tincture put the drops in about a spoon of water or juice. I just take straight..some herbs are taken with food and some not..
You do not need to count drops..squeeze the eyedropper top on the tincture bottle, put in bottle of liquidherbal tincture and release. Whatever remains in the dropper is considered one dropperful (it will usually look about one half full..one dropperful is about 30 drops so if the dose is 60 drops take one dropperful..if it is 60 take two dropprfuls. Capsules are the worse way to take herbs.
I have made my own..anything thing you make will generally be much better than what you buy and it costs about 1/10th the cost. You can use bulk herbs (an ounce of ginkgo would be about a dollar and you%26#039;d get quite a bit of tincure. Look online for how to make a tincture. It%26#039;s easy..make sure the jar you store it in is dark or paint it or keep it in a bag in a dark place as light hurts it. Always mark and label it..and put a date of 5 years from the day it is sweeezed on the label as the expiration but tinctures 75 years old have been fine and I go past the date with mine. I used ginkgo leaves from a tree AI found at a union cemeatary..there are several going outside the fence with threir branches. They need to be picked in the fall. I dried them but frezsh would be fine..in fact, probably would have been better.
I personally need it, but I keep forgetting to take it..
Reply:thank you so much..I made an error in the best answer. On the 8th paragraph that begins with the words %26quot;you do not need to count drops%26quot; that reads %26quot;.one dropperful is about 30 drops so if the dose is 60 drops take one dropperful..if it is 60 take two dropprfuls%26quot; Report It
Reply:should read 30 instead of 60 so it should be .%26quot;one dropperful is about 30 drops so if the dose is 30 drops take one dropperful..if it is 60 take two dropperfuls%26quot;. Sorry for the error. Report It
Reply:I have a book called Top 100 Herbal remedies by Anne Mcintyre which I find really usefull
Reply:I do not have references to the type of brand you should take; however, the usual dosage is anywhere from 40 to 80 mg three times daily- breakfast, lunch, and dinner- women should not use it when pregnant. I have two nice references for you:
Would you buy a facial mask made from red glacial clay?
I really want to make some facial masks and creams from a kind of red glacial clay found only where i live.
i want to include things like milk, honey, and ginkgo in the creams. with some nice scents like almond. and i want everything to be all natural and green friendly with no pollutants.
i just want to know if it would sell. i know it would be a great product and i%26#039;m not looking to rip anyone off.
what do you guys think?
Would you buy a facial mask made from red glacial clay?
i like the idea that you wanna make it so its natural and green friendly etc i love that kind of thing. Give it a try and make a small quantity and see how it goes, i would keep the ingredients a secret though, dont want no copy cats...
Do your research and get it patented etc.
I would love to try it, always open to something new...
Reply:i agree with the girl above me
Reply:Make sure you test it out on your own skin, and/or someone elses. And what exactly is this facial mask%26#039;s purpose for the skin?
As long as you do/figure these things, make it so no one can copy you, and use ingredients that not everyone can just use themselves to make it...(because then they wouldn%26#039;t buy it, they could just make it with what they have at home), then it should sell.
And by the way, you do have to inform people what ingredients you use, you don%26#039;t want anyone to not know what they are using because they could have an allergic reaction, and most likely, it wouldn%26#039;t help sell it if you didn%26#039;t. People want to know what they%26#039;re putting on their skin.
Good luck.
Herbal tea recommendation?
I%26#039;ve eliminated caffeine from my life for medical reasons and am hoping to find a caffeine-free tea that has the brain-function benefits of ginkgo biloba. If it has a mild to moderate stimulant effect, that%26#039;s OK, but not necessary; but I *don%26#039;t* want a calming tea. I%26#039;m open to all suggestions. Thanks.
Herbal tea recommendation?
Cognition enhancers like Ginkgo biloba are Panax ginseng and Paeonia lactiflora. Panax is a tonic and adaptogenic which will not sedate but have a tonifying effect on your body and help cope with stressors. You can combine this with licorice or aniseed or any other aromtaic herbs that you fancy. I usually combine Panax with ginger and cinnamon in the winter. Ginger and cinnamon enhance circulation and increase tissue perfusion (just like ginkgo).
Reply:Ginseng tea, but only American ginseng from Wisconsin. Good for the brain, with a mild, non-addicting stimulant. The only downside is that it tastes like a rock. I%26#039;m serious. Have you ever sucked on a rock. Same taste. But, you get used to it. It%26#039;s pretty good for you. Give it a try.
Reply:I find Rooibos or Red Bush tea is just as good as a normal cuppa; I couldn%26#039;t live without it. Not sure about having the same benefits as ginkgo biloba though. Peppermint is supposed to be stimulating too...
I won%26#039;t be able to get in contact or even see my fiance until tomorrow... no MDs until Monday, and just came from the emergency room. They said she had an anxiety attack! They barely even looked at her before giving her that label, tested her only for that, and put words into her mouth about her symptoms... I%26#039;m sure its TIA, since she%26#039;s had attacks before and none lasted that long, were on and off like that, and had THAT many symptoms... anyway can this work, as it can for blood clots:
Herbal remedies may include cayenne (Capsicum frutescens), other hot peppers, and gingko (Ginkgo biloba) to help reduce the protein fibrin, which is a necessary factor in blood clots. Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus), turmeric (Curcuma longa), and ginger (Zingiber officinale) help reduce platelets%26#039; stickiness, which is essential for clot fo
Hearing Loss treatment Or SNHL treatment or barotrauma treatment?
I am suffering from nerve hearing loss. Is there any treatment available for this? what is that? Does Ginkgo Biloba improves hearing in hard of hearing people. Pl suggest. help
Hearing Loss treatment Or SNHL treatment or barotrauma treatment?
There is typically no treatment for nerve based hearing loss. A couple of nerve based hearing loss etiologies have treatment (example, viral infection can be treated with antivirals or steroids) but most don%26#039;t. Don%26#039;t know any supplements that help either. If the loss is single sided, you can wear a hearing aid or look into a BAHA (bone anchored hearing appliance) or VORP (vibrating ossicular replacement prosthesis) which are surgically implanted, if it is bilateral and severe-profound, you may qualify for a cochlear implant.
Most important weight lifting exercises for building size? How about imprtant supplements?
Hello,
I am finally going to embark on a life altering exercise regimen, no more excuses. I would like to get a better understanding as to what exercises are vital for gaining muscle. Thanks. Also, how about supplements. I currently have had the following in my pantry, collecting dust.
Forza T/Tribex
Eas Creatine/NE2
Whey Protein
Mega Man Vitamins
Ginkgo
Blue/Green Algae
CLA
Glutamine
How important is milk consumption? Best time to take the creatine formula?
Most important weight lifting exercises for building size? How about imprtant supplements?
What exercises are vital for gaining muscle? What muscles are we talking about here?? I guess my first response is that the core of any good training program is the squat. Everything starts with your legs and then you build up from there. Your legs are the biggest muscle on you body-train them first and plus you will see the fastest gains here. Next I would say pull ups. Simple but the king for building the large back muscles that will help give you the V shape most guys are looking for. I would also train biceps and triceps on the same day and possibly even superset them. Your triceps make up most of the size of your arms so make sure to focus plenty on them. Of course there are lots of other body parts to focus on put these are the best for building the large muscled groups.
Supplement wise I would only take creatine, protein, and then vitamins and antioxidents. The other stuff is unnecessary. Get plenty to eat and eat the right foods (common sense the closer to nature and less processed the better) and get plenty of sleep. You cant lose. Good Luck!
Reply:dump the supplements, all of them.
drink some protein after the work out, plus you must eat to gain, eat meals all day.
Can using sensitive, soap free facial cleaner on normal skin cause breakouts?
I%26#039;ve swiched my facial products because my skin was starting to feel tight and tired. I switched to sensitive skin care line %26#039;Simple%26#039; which is soap free. My face wash contains Vitamin B-5. My toner contains Chamomile and Witch Hazel, and my Moisturiser contains Ginkgo Biloba, Vitamin A, E, B-5 and F with Mushroom extract. I%26#039;ve only used it one night. My skin feels less tight but seems a bit oiler than normal. Am I likely to break out in spots because of this?
Can using sensitive, soap free facial cleaner on normal skin cause breakouts?
The great advantage of oily skin is that it ages at a slower rate than other skin types.
Oily skin needs special cleansing with plenty of hot water and soap to prevent the pores from being clogged. Avoid harsh products that strip your skin of oil and encourage flakiness. They can cause a reaction known as reactive seborrhoea, where the oil glands work overtime to compensate for the loss of natural oils.
Avoid skincare products that leave your skin feeling taut and dehydrated. They cause the upper layers of the skin to shrink. This restricts oil flow through the pores leading to blockages and breakouts.
To cleanse oily skin, use oil-based products as they dissolve sebum effectively. Opt for oil-free moisturizers to maintain a shine-free complexion.
Keep your skin very clean. Limit washing your face to two or three times a day. Too much washing will stimulate your skin to produce more oil.
Choose your cleanser with care. Avoid heavy cleansing creams. Avoid the use of harsh soaps or cleansers. Use a pure soap with no artificial additives. Try an antibacterial cleansing lotion or a lightly medicated soap, and use it in combination with a water rich in minerals, not tap water. Do not use cleansers or lotions that contain alcohol. After cleansing, apply a natural oil-free moisturizer to keep the skin supple.
Use hot water when washing your face. Hot water dissolves skin oil better than lukewarm or cold water.
If your skin is extremely oily, three or four daily cleansings may be in order and little or no moisturizing necessary before you are 30 years old. After that point, the skin around your eyes and mouth and on your throat may benefit from a nightly moisturizing, plus a mere touch of moisturizer in the morning.
When cleansing, massage your face well with your fingertips, using an upward and outward motion. Be careful not to rub soap into the skin; it can clog pores.
If your oily skin is scaly, you can often correct the problem by using a deep-cleaning exfoliant on alternate nights, and following the treatment with a light coating of moisturizer.
Try using a clay or mud mask. If you have sensitive skin, use white or rose-colored clays.
Use a light antiseptic night cream from time to time if you wish, and apply a clarifying mask one or two times a week.
Choose cosmetic and facial care products specifically designed for oily skin.
Before applying makeup, use an antiseptic day cream with active ingredients that diminish sebaceous secretions. Look for benzyl peroxide in the list of active ingredients.
Use a light antiseptic night cream from time to time if you wish, and apply a clarifying mask one or two times a week.
Reply:just use neutrogena....they have stuff for all skin type products
Reply:to tell you the truth, even if your face products are soap free %26amp; %26quot;natural%26quot; %26amp; even in some cases, %26quot;organic,%26quot; if they contain any chemicals like Parabens, fragrance, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Propylene Glycol, etc, they can make you break out. you need to be using ALL natural products or products that are at minimum 95% natural. my prefered line of beauty products (because I have super sensitive %26amp; acne prone skin) is Burt%26#039;s Bees. I love that they%26#039;re mostly 100% natural AND they%26#039;re so inexpensive!
Reply:Many times when changing face cleaners/make up, etc. you will experience a break out. The reason is the new cleaner is trying to purify the skin and it takes time. I would give it at least a week to 10 days to see if you notice a difference.
Good Luck.
Reply:Your skin feels a bit more oily, hence it feels less tight. You are not likely to break out from this. (I wonder what the Mushroom extract is supposed to help) So much acne is due to stress %26amp; hormones, and of course, that time of the month! Stick with your regimen, don%26#039;t worry about the feeling of more oily--give your skin a week to adjust to the new products, then re-evaluate.
Reply:Skin is so unpredictable, my suggestion would be to not use the moisturizure so often. And by the way, my face is always on the shiny side and i never get pimples. As long as you are taking good care fo your skin, then there should be no problem. Hope this helped =]
Reply:Actually, the %26#039;sensitive skin%26#039; products are better because have no fragrance, which can clog your pores. As for your skin feeling oilier, change your routine: use only your face wash and toner in the morning, but face wash, toner and moisturizer at night, because the skin repairs 90% of itself at night. You might want to splurge on a good moisturizer if the one you have doesn%26#039;t work for you. Another good tip is switching your pillowcase every night, as bacteria can remain in it.
Vertigo-anyone else out there used herbal or alternative treatments? I'm on stemetil to treat it at present.
I have been off work for a week, after a sudden violent attack of vomiting and vertigo, for which I was hospitalised. There does not seem to be any specific cause - perhaps a viral infection, I%26#039;ve been told. The treatment I am on is Stemetil; 3 times a day; Serc; 3 times a day.I still feel very dizzy and disorientated - walk like I am drunk. I have read that Ginkgo Bilboa can be helpful in these cases; has anyone used it? Or has anyone any suggestions for exercises, or other treatments? I cannot go back to work until this settles; I%26#039;m a supervisor in a very busy clinic, and I need to be on top form to be at work.
I%26#039;m open to complementary therapies of any sort; I just feel really strange and %26quot;out of it%26quot;.
Vertigo-anyone else out there used herbal or alternative treatments? I%26#039;m on stemetil to treat it at present.
I was off work with it for 3months when they finally decided to send me to a ear, nose and throat specialist who sent me to the hearing therapy who gave me exercises to retrain the brain into not thinking that vertigo is normal. They basically included making yourself dizzy like bending over and looking left and right and spinning around but are done with your eyes closed. basicaly bend over with your head between your legs and then look left and look right whilst bent over ten times. and just bend over ten times. Also do the dosey doe with someone (you will have your eyes closed) and spin 10 times one way and ten times the other. Also sit on chair and get up and spin one way and sit down. Now alternate which way everytime for 10 times. Then do it so you sit, stand spin one way and then the other and then sit down for 10 times.There are others but i will be here all day and i can%26#039;t reall remember them. Hope this helps as I no the feeling, I really can%26#039;t stand it when it comes on, They have no idea what causes mine at all. Again i got the line,we think a virus started it. Basically they have no idea what really causes vertigo.
Reply:Get yourself along to a Homoeopath. I%26#039;ve been consulted a lot in the last few months about menieres, labarynthitis %26amp; just plain vertigo - all of which make people feel just how you%26#039;ve described. Homoeopathy has total success with treating this but you can%26#039;t treat yourself - it needs the expertise %26amp; experience of a registered practitioner. Go to http://www.homeopathy-soh.org/ to find a local therapist. I haven%26#039;t failed a case yet %26amp; the results are pretty rapid %26amp; permanent. Best wishes
Reply:Have you been to a doctor? I ask because I have vertigo and have had my ears and hearing checked, 2 MRIs, 1 CT scan, and another test (I forget what it is called). If you have not been to a doctor, go immediately. Some of the things for which they tested me were very serious concerns (cancer, aneurysm, multiple sclerosis) and the first line of defense should be to learn what is the cause before you try to address the effect. Unless you have had all of these tests, you need to see an ear, nose, and throat specialist and, if it is not an inner ear problem, a neurologist will probably be consulted next.
Reply:My experience with vertigo is this: A few years ago, I began having slight vertigo first thing in the morning, but it would go away very quickly. This happened for a couple weeks. Then suddenly, one Sunday morning, the room was spinning and I couldn%26#039;t even get out of bed! Had to have my ex take me to the hospital (the only one I could think to call on a Sunday morning!) and got a shot of something (probably Phenergan) and a prescription for Phenergan for the nausea and Meclizine for the dizziness. At the hospital, they said %26quot;there%26#039;s no fluid in your ears%26quot;. The next day at my regular doctor%26#039;s, she said %26quot;there%26#039;s lots of fluid in your ears%26quot;. ?!? So she suggested lots of steady Sudafed or similar for decongesting the fluid. Everyone%26#039;s statement was %26quot;don%26#039;t know what causes it; it just keeps happening%26quot;. Not very encouraging, as I REALLY didn%26#039;t like the whole nausea thing, much less not being able to walk straight. Well, a couple years went by without any more vertigo (yay!) then one night I ate dinner at my local Perkins. Had a Coconut Shrimp Salad with easily over a dozen jumbo coconut-crusted shrimp, which I usually don%26#039;t eat, but these were delicious. This was at about 7pm. At about 4am, the room woke me up spinning like crazy. I finally put the 2 + 2 together for me that it must be the shrimp! I have no recollection that I was eating more shrimp than I usually did to cause the first episode, but the second one was painfully obvious. So no more shrimp for me, and so far, no more vertigo! I was able to get past the second episode by taking lots of Sudafed on my own without a trip to the doc or the hospital. And while researching motion sickness meds for my very first cruise a couple months ago, I discovered that Bonine and the non-drowsy Dramamine are actually meclizine (which worked great on the cruise by the way). This is good to know for those of us who no longer have health insurance... So, put on your Columbo hat (if you%26#039;re not old enough to remember him, he was a quirky detective) and pay attention to all the things you eat or drink or even have contact with or breathe to see if any of them could be causing your problems. Good luck!!! : )
I have a calcium supplement w/ vitamin d and minerals tablets that expire on January 2007.?
I was wondering if I can still take them.
Also in general let%26#039;s if my ginkgo biloba or centrum pills expire, can I still take them without any kind of negative effects.
I have a calcium supplement w/ vitamin d and minerals tablets that expire on January 2007.?
Yes, they will be fine.
Reply:I manage a supplement store.You can take your supplements after expiration,but I don%26#039;t recommend it.It won%26#039;t hurt you, but your supplements lose potency over time.Moisture,temp changes,light.........ect.all effect the potency of your supplements.Take them if you want to,but you%26#039;ll get more benefit from fresh ones.
Reply:Most natural products only lose potency - this close should be fine because of the sell date usually factoring in enough time to use the supply while still potent
Reply:I do not see why not, herbs and supplements do last longer than over the counter, because the manufacturers do not add any additives. It is because of the bureaucrats in the mogul pharmaceutical industries and their constant nagging that legislation gets passed over health food products, after expired dates, from the manufacturers of health foods, the vitamins are good up to a year, year and a half, keep them tightly sealed, away from moisture and sun. I have used expired herbs and vitamins myself and I am still here.
Reply:when in dought throw them out.
Does anyone have any genuine tips or herbal remedy's for poor circulation?
I have poor circulation. I exercise vigorously at the gym 4 hours a week. I eat a fairly good diet. (but not perfect) I have used ginkgo biloba. (it is a hebal leaf supposed to increase circulation). Does anyone have any sensible tips on what to do, And what not to do for better circulation. Thank you kindly. (this cold weather does not help lol) Cheers.
Does anyone have any genuine tips or herbal remedy%26#039;s for poor circulation?
You should see your GP.It%26#039;s nothing to worry about but you may have a condition called Raynauds Syndrome which is when the poor circulation in people who are sensitive to cold temperatures causes hands,fingers and feet to turn white,then blue.As the circulation returns to normal the skin turns red.Your GP can supply medication to prevent this.
Reply:Eat lots of Onions and Garlic and Greens too,drink more water and do more than 4 hours exercise a week LOL its not that much when you think about it !
Also go see your doctor, its OK to say you want herbal remedy%26#039;s but if its affecting your life then id seek more help and maybe a normal medicine to help you out, after all when it comes to your well being nothing is too much !!.
I need to information about properties?
propertis about ginkgo biloba, salvia,ginger,saw palmetto%26amp;Aloe
I need to information about properties?
Review the following remedies ginkgo biloba may offer for your health:
Erectile dysfunction and impotence. In general impotence or erectile dysfunction is the outcomes of poor circulation. Ginkgo biloba extracts have been found to improve the treatment of erectile dysfunction caused by poor blood flow as a result of atherosclerosis in the penis. In various clinical trials, ultrasound examinations of more than 55 impotent men who used ginkgo biloba confirmed an improvement in the penile blood circulation within six weeks. Within six months, more than 49 percent of the participants of the study had the ability to obtain an erection. Today, continuing evaluations are researching ginkgo%26#039;s role in treating the condition.
Asthmatic attacks. For centuries, the Chinese has taken advantage of the healing powers of ginkgo biloba in remedying asthmatic attacks. The airway spasms coupled with the discomfort of wheezing can be temporarily relieved with the use of ginkgo biloba.
Tweak brain power. Even though there are not any conclusive studies that demonstrate how ginkgo may prevent memory loss in healthy individuals, various reports suggest that it may help prevent against mental decline and tweak the functionalities of the brain. The effects are afforded by gingko biloba%26#039;s ability to improve blood flow to the brain.
Can taking too many herbal medicines have a bad effect on my body?
I have a selection of 23 herbal remedies. if i take the recommended dose of each one, will that mess up my body and cause me problems? The herbal remedies are things like ginseng, ginkgo, saw palmetto, damiana etc.
Can taking too many herbal medicines have a bad effect on my body?
if its herbal it should have no negative effects. Just make sure it%26#039;s 100% natural. Most herbal medicines are combined with drugs that can in the long run be bad for your health. But if its all natural your body will take what it needs and dispose of the rest.
Reply:oh yes
Reply:It could have a bad effect on your body. Many herbs interact with each other in a negative way, and they can also interact badly with medications. Some people cannot take herbs at all because of the bad side effects. It is wise to be very careful about what herbs you take. Don%26#039;t just take them because someone says it is good for you. You need to learn all you can about an herb before you start taking it.
Reply:you%26#039;ll probably get things growing out of your ears!! lol
Reply:Taking too much of anything will have a bad effect on your body especially concentrated herbs.
Taking too much water or a large handful of salt will kill you in about 1 -2 hours.
Reply:You need a good herbal reference book. Some herbs react violently with others. Some herbs are poison. Some herbs will make you vomit, some will make you pass out. You need to do some reading first. This is your body. Don%26#039;t put something in it without knowing what it will do to you. If you don%26#039;t want to read than I have no advice for you. Go to the health food store and ask for a good herbal book.
Reply:depends what the herbs are. a lot dont do anything at all so theyre fine. the herbs that are effective though in all reality arent mcuh different than conventional drugs. id decide which ones you really need and cut back if i were you...
contrary to popular opinion here, it doesnt matter if something is natural or synthetic, what matters is how it interacts with your body. natural does not neccesarily = good for you and synthetic does not neccesarily = bad for you. you CAN have adverse effects from medicinally active herbs
Reply:Herbal medications do have toxicity levels. If you also take medical medicines be sure to check with your doctor about items that may interfere with those medicines. Some may dangerously interact. Be honest with your medical doctor about which herbs and amounts you take.
Reply:no.just see to it that it is natural n safe.usually no negative effects are there in herbs.consult ur doctor 4 dis.
Reply:yeh.........coz anything dats too much is not good 4 the human body.
Reply:yes this can be bad for you! you would have to tell us the exact herbal medications you are on and the prescribed drugs you also take... and also medical conditions you suffer from... all these factor in to whether or not the herb you are taking is safe... for example if you are on a blood thinner such as coumadin (warfarin) and take st. john%26#039;s wort, you can cause the coumadin not to work, and cause DVT or deep vein thrombosis formation (a blood clot) this clot can break free and flow to your heart and KILL YOU!! this is just one of many examples i can give you of drug-herb interactions.... for herb-medical condition interaction....take st john%26#039;s wort again.... a pt suffering from depression and especially those on SSRIs (selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors) such as Zoloft, Prozac, paxil, lexapro, celexa, %26amp; luvox... can develop a fatal syndrome known as seritonin syndrome, where seritionin builds up on the brain.... st john%26#039;s wort is not the only herb that can do this.. EVERY herb has its side effects, and where you are taking several you have to worry about herb-to-herb interactions that may harm you
i hope this helps.... talk to your pharmacist he should be able to explain exactly what can happen.... him knowing what all medications you take
also if you are a person that likes alternative medicine better than traditional medicine... you should look for an DO not a MD... MD is medical doctor... DO is doctor of osteopathic medicine (they specialize in alternative forms of medicine... such as herbs) DOs are very popular in the northern areas of the US... for example In Erie, Pa you have to hunt for a Doctor that is an MD not a DO!!!
good luck!
Reply:Yes it can.
Reply:Unfortunately, yes.
For example, when I take Una de Gato (Cat%26#039;s Claw) and Graviola together, I get really bad aches in my lower back. But, when I take them a couple of hours apart, it doesn%26#039;t affect me at all.
Here%26#039;s a good website that discusses many possible interactions between herbs, prescription drugs, and foods, along with some common side effects of herbal remedies.
http://www.holisticonline.com/Herbal-Med...
Don%26#039;t get me wrong, I eat herbal supplements like they%26#039;re candy... I%26#039;ve just started to realize that there are some it%26#039;s not good to take together.
But, don%26#039;t forget, everyone is different. Some herbs effect people adversely, while others don%26#039;t. (I have a lot of trouble with Valerian root, for example, it makes me really edgy.)
If you%26#039;d like a more professional opinion on this, a Western doctor wouldn%26#039;t necessarily be my first choice. While their word is considered law by most people, I%26#039;ve found the majority of them dismiss herbal remedies as quackery, and there%26#039;s nothing more degrading than walking out of a doctor%26#039;s office after having been told to throw away all of your herbal supplements because they%26#039;re worthless. (For the record, I%26#039;ve also been told by a doctor that information on the Internet is worthless, and that Googling symptoms instead of running straight to the doctor is akin to blasphemy). I don%26#039;t go to the doctor anymore.
My honest advice is that if you want a true medical opinion on this matter, you should seek a naturopathic physician. They%26#039;ve had quite a bit of schooling on herbal remedies, and are a lot likely to dismiss them as bogus. They%26#039;ll be able to tell you both the positive and negative side, and offer you advice on dosage frequency and interactions. If you don%26#039;t know of a naturopathic physician in your area, a Google search of %26quot;naturopathic physician%26quot; + %26quot;(your state)%26quot; will typically bring up a directory.
If you don%26#039;t want to go that route, let me ask you this: where do you buy your supplements? If it%26#039;s at Wal-Mart or a drugstore like CVS, they won%26#039;t likely be a lot of help, but if you actually buy them from an herb shop, it%26#039;s likely that you%26#039;ll be able to find someone certified in herbology behind the counter. They%26#039;ll normally talk with you for free, and may even be able to provide you some literature on what you%26#039;re taking.
Best of luck!
Reply:Yes, buy a book and make sure you understand herbal medicine and natural healing. I have found the books and tapes (both availabe free at a library) by Andrew Weil, MD. to be best. He goes into much detail in the book Spontaneous Healing. Here is his web site if you are interested in learning more. http://www.drweil.com/drw/ecs/index.html
Supplement and Vitamins ....too much?
I am trying to sort myself out and after reading up on nutrition I have started taking some supplements. It seems like I need a pill for everything but at the moment I am taking:
Iron
5-HTP (50mg)
Co Q10
Perfectil (Hair,Skin %26amp; Nails)
Evening Primrose Oil (3000mg)
Vit E
Vit C 1000mg
MSM 1000mg
B Vit Complex
Chromium
Ginseng
Ginkgo biloba
Hyaluronic Acid 50mg
Flaxseed Oil 2 tbsps
I also have some other things that I take but not everyday, green food powder, bee pollen, brewers yeast. soya protein powder and lecithin. I use these either in my porridge or smoothies a few times a week.
I also currently take a daily antibiotic for acne.
I am using supplements to help improve my general health, to improve my skin, help with depression and migraine and assist with any short fall in my vegetarian diet.
It seems quite a lot really and I am worried about any possible problems all these may cause me but I sort of feel I need all this at the moment.
What do you think?
Supplement and Vitamins ....too much?
Hey there!
I am also a vegetarian with acne. Ok. I%26#039;m no nutritionist, but I have read extensively about supplements for pretty much the same reasons you have. I have to say, you might be taking too much.
I say this because it sounds like you have doubt in your heart about this and are truly wondering if you are taking too much, and I believe that if you have this gut feeling you are probably right. Also, the amounts of each vitamin you are taking is a bit too much.
I won%26#039;t go over the whole list, but I%26#039;ll just comment of some of the supplements you mentioned:
1000mg of vitamin C is far too much, you should only be taking around 300mg per day.
Some of the other ones, I am not entirely sure about so I won%26#039;t comment on those.
Invest in a really good multivitamin, it makes all the difference. It keeps your body in balance and has all the proper amounts of each supplement. I%26#039;d say only supplement in omega 3%26#039;s, and even then try to just eat more fish instead of taking pills.
It%26#039;s really important to try to get your vitamins from your food as much as you can, and believe me, thats when you%26#039;ll start getting the results you want.
I used to supplement, and was still miserable with acne. But now i just take a multi vitamin every day and eat foods that are high in the vitamins I want, and I feel and look better than when I was supplementing.
Do what you feel best doing, but remember that your body is designed to take its nutrients from food and does so much better than from concentrated versions in pills!
Good luck in balancing your vegetarian diet and vitamins!
Reply:you can get all most all them that you need out of the reg foods you eat everyday
why spend the extra money?
eat healthy and you should have all you need
maybe a extra real 100% orange juice a day for extra C
Reply:Most vitamins are artificial and fragmented and your body is harmed by them more than helped. There have been many research studies with vitamins that have been stopped because the vitamins were killing the people in the study.
The only thing I see on your list that are good is the Q10 and Flax seed (and you are better grinding your own flax seed because the oils get rancid really fast. Bee pollen has beneficial qualities. The GinkgoBiloba is a blood thinner and my doctor said it was what cause my vision loss. so be careful with that one. C %26amp; E need to be balanced or you will have lots of free radicals charging around like little crazy cells.
Your vitamins are best received from whole food. Your body evolved on whole food. One supplement I take that has been research in numerous medical studies and a lot of doctors world wide use it in their practice is JuicePlus+ http://www.juiceplus.com/+Lb53116 It is made from vineripe, fruits and veggies, organicly grown.
I used to take a list like yours thinking I was doing THE BODY GOOD. But found out I was harming myself.
good luck
